The 2018 NBA Draft is quickly approaching with trade rumors around the top few picks in the draft being the center of the discussion.

In the last few hours, the Atlanta Hawks have been the most mentioned among teams possibly looking to make a move to shake up their backcourt, with their eyes directed toward taking former Oklahoma standout point guard Trae Young. According to Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports, the Dallas Mavericks have been heavily pursuing the third overall pick held by the Hawks in order to take former Read Madrid wingman Luka Doncic.

Doncic is one of the most intriguing talents in this year's draft class. He is a highly versatile wing player who has the ability to heavily impact the game with his scoring as a well-polished offensive player while possessing the athletic ability to be a physical factor at the rim. With the Mavericks, he would join a core group alongside second-year point guard Dennis Smith Jr. and Harrison Barnes.

However, things hit a wall in the trade conversation with the Mavericks being unwilling to involve their fifth overall pick and Wes Matthews in a deal that the Hawks would include Kent Bazemore, according to Mark Stein of the New York Times.

Atlanta appears to be more than willing to move down if they are able to land Young at that selection. The Hawks have also reportedly had some discussions with the L.A. Clippers to move veteran point guard Dennis Schroder to give the reins in the backcourt to the 19-year-old.

This has shifted the pressure onto the Mavericks' shoulders to get the deal done.
