Luka Doncic is one of the best players on the planet. The Dallas Mavericks star was the preseason favorite for the 2020-21 NBA MVP award and was named to the All-NBA first team this season. But apparently, not everyone is on the Doncic hype train just yet.
A certain Twitter user went on an impassioned rant citing Luka Doncic's race as a factor in determining his selection for the NBA 2k22 cover. She then proceeded to name-drop a handful of other young, specifically black, NBA stars she claims are better than the Mavs wunderkind.
I ain’t no racist but come on with the fucking overhyped. You got young black players that are better than him (trae young, devin booker, Donovan, Jamal Murray they’re who actually had more time in the playoffs. So many other players deserve it more. Just stop ✋ pic.twitter.com/PChi047hZ3

The names she mentioned like Trae Young, Devin Booker, Donovan Mitchell, and Jamal Murray are all definitely talented players who've shown up in the postseason. But to argue that any of them are better than Luka Doncic is a tall task. The only knock on Luka is the fact that he hasn't been able to carry the Mavs out of the first round, but that's definitely not from his lack of performance.
Never mind the fact that Doncic has an air-tight argument over the names mentioned. Deciding on who the cover athlete is for a video game is completely subjective in the first place. Safe to say fans felt the same way, coming to the defense of Luka Doncic against the fan who probably hasn't seen too many Mavs games.

"I'm not being racist" then proceeds to say that other players should be on the cover because they are black, and there's no argument to be made that any of the player you mentioned are better than Luka.

So you would’ve been fine with Ja last year before ever making the playoffs or an all-NBA team but because Luka’s a white Euro you don’t want him on the cover pic.twitter.com/BE1jjKRExG

No, he's a top 10 player in the league, nobody else on the list you made is in that range at all lol

The best part was that she was actually called out by an NBA player, Orlando Magic guard Cole Anthony. The fact that he actually played against Luka Doncic and the Mavs in a real game is probably a sign that your take isn't great.
Tell me you don’t watch basketball without telling me you don’t watch basketball https://t.co/m7vRGK2lYA
