The Dallas Mavericks head into Monday's contest against the Memphis Grizzlies looking for a third straight win after previously beating the San Antonio Spurs and Los Angeles Lakers. The most impressive part? They've done it without their superstar, who has been battling a thigh injury. That raises the question here: Is Luka Doncic playing tonight?
Luka Doncic injury status vs. Grizzlies
Doncic was listed as questionable for this marquee matchup early Monday morning, but now, he's been downgraded to out by the team. The Slovenian guard hasn't played in the Mavs' last four games after suffering the injury on March 8th against the New Orleans Pelicans, exiting in the third quarter.
However, he's clearly taking steps in the right direction. Luka was a full participant in practice last Thursday, which means he's not that far off actually returning to the fold. It's also important to note that Doncic was listed as out for the previous two contests.
The 24-year-old is in the midst of a fantastic campaign for Dallas, averaging 33 points, 8.6 rebounds, and eight assists per night while shooting 50% from the field. He currently ranks second in the Association in scoring behind only Joel Embiid, one of the top MVP candidates at the moment.
Luka undoubtedly needs to be healthy if the Mavs are going to get anywhere come playoff time, but it's promising to see them winning some ballgames without him, much in part to Kyrie Irving's brilliance.
So to answer the question, is Luka Doncic playing vs Grizzlies? The answer is no, but there should be optimism he's on the court again soon.
