Help is potentially on the way for Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks, and it comes from some familiar faces for NBA fans.

According to Sports Illustrated's Chris Mannix, the Mavericks front office were “impressed” with former NBA players Lance Stephenson and Isaiah Thomas' workouts. This comes right after the report that the Mavericks held workouts for Stephenson, Thomas, and former Mavs guard Monta Ellis.

The Mavericks' depth was exposed in their first-round series against the Los Angeles Clippers this season. Doncic would routinely carry the Mavs on his back, but his supporting cast would falter time and time again. Guys like Tim Hardaway Jr, Maxi Kleber, and Kristaps Porzingis were called upon to help lessen Doncic's workload, but they would be either inconsistent or consistently bad.

Now, Mark Cuban and the Mavs front office are looking to bolster the lineup by adding capable playmakers lessen the burden on Luka Doncic. They were able to lock up Hardaway and signed sharpshooter Reggie Bullock to a deal in in free agency, but neither can necessarily create plays off the bounce effectively.

Stephenson, who last played for the Lakers alongside LeBron James, has his fair share of antics, but he's a bench energizer who can lead the second unit in scoring and facilitating for his teammates.

On the other hand, Thomas, who last played for the New Orleans Pelicans, is looking to prove his worth after a hip injury derailed his career. He's shown flashes of still being a decent bench scorer in his recent stints, but his height and injury history has deterred teams from signing him full-time.

All in all, Mavericks fans should be happy with this news. The Mavs front office are making moves to capitalize on Doncic's prime. Stephenson and Thomas aren't marquee names, but if they get signed, they are decent backup plans to assist in performing Luka magic.
