Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic had a historic debut in the Tokyo Olympics, and his new Mavs coach Jason Kidd couldn't be more proud.

Doncic led his native Slovenia to a 118-110 win in their Olympic opener against Argentina. The Mavs star was unstoppable throughout the contest, finishing with a game-high 48 points on top of 11 rebounds, five assists and three blocks.

He also made six triples, four of which were his patented stepback 3-pointer.

Of course, Luka Doncic's Mavs coach in Jason Kidd was glued to the TV watching the contest. And for the former NBA champion and star point guard, it was “special” watching his superstar play.

“That was a special game last night. What a great way to start your Olympic career with 48 points against a very good Argentina team,” Kidd shared to 105.3 The Fan’s G-Bag Nation (h/t Fansided).

Luka is yet to formally meet Kidd after the former Mavs point guard was officially hired to replace Rick Carlisle. However, it is pretty clear Kidd is excited to see Doncic in action when he returns to Dallas after the Olympics.

For now, though, it sure looks like Kidd will be in full support of his star as he tries to lead Slovenia to the Olympic basketball gold–something that the nation has never won before and one that Doncic deems more important than an NBA championship.
