The overtime thriller between the New Orleans Pelicans and Dallas Mavericks was lauded because of its “playoff atmosphere.” Sought for a comment on the tense game, Mavs big man Kristaps Porzingis had a rather blunt but funny response.

Porzingis has yet to experience what the real “playoff atmosphere” is like after playing three disappointing season with the New York Knicks and spending the whole 2018-19 campaign in street clothes.

Fans quickly replied to the tweet, noting that it might be a subtle jab to the Knicks — Porzingis' first team in the NBA.

The Knicks were the ones who drafted the Latvian as the fourth overall pick of the 2015 NBA Draft. Initially, New York fans were dismayed with the club's move. Nobody knows about this man Kristaps Porzingis during that time, but as the season progressed, fans discovered his potential.

Despite this, though, the Knicks seemingly failed to capitalize on landing a unique talent. They did not make any moves to surround Porzingis with good enough players to complement him. The nail in the coffin was when the Latvian tore his ACL in February 2018, which snowballed into several controversies that eventually led to Porzingis being traded to the Mavs.

Now with the Mavs, the 24-year-old has a chance to qualify for the postseason for the first time in his career. They currently sport a decent 38-25 record for seventh in the West.

Moreover, the Mavs are seven and a half games ahead of the eighth-seeded Memphis Grizzlies. Unless something unfortunate happens which translates into a spate of losses, it looks like Dallas is off to its first playoff appearance since the 2015-16 campaign.
