At this point, it would be safe to say that the Mavs' Luka Doncic-Kristaps Porzingis experiment did not pan out as expected. This pair showed some flashes of brilliance throughout their time together as teammates in Dallas, but it's also true that they never really reached their true potential as a duo.

Now with the Washington Wizards, Porzingis opened up about his botched partnership with Doncic. Even the 26-year-old big man himself admitted that his on-court relationship with the Luka did not turn out to be as good as they hoped it would:

“Not what everybody expected, not what I expected, but that’s what it is in this league sometimes. Luka is a great player and I wish him well. I wish him to achieve what he sets to achieve for himself,” Porzingis said, via Chase Hughes of NBC Sports Washington.

Porzingis had nothing but high praise for Luka, who has established himself as one of the top players in the NBA today. The Mavs have now decided to move on from this duo after three years. During their time together, the Mavs went to the playoffs in back-to-back seasons, but both resulted in early first-round exits.

As part of the Porzingis trade, Dallas has now added Spencer Dinwiddie and Davis Bertans to their lineup. There are some question marks about their potential fit on the team and whether or not this was actually a good move for the Mavs. However, it would only be appropriate to hold judgment until we are able to see what these two new players bring to the table and how this new-look squad will perform the rest of the season.
