The Washington Wizards made a shocking move at the NBA's trade deadline. Facing some questions due to Bradley Beal's season-ending surgery, fans weren't sure whether they were contending or not. Those questions got a few answers when the franchise traded struggling guard Spencer Dinwiddie to the Dallas Mavericks for Kristaps Porzingis.

Speaking to the media after the trade, Wizards GM Tommy Sheppard had some nice words to say about Porzingis, saying that the Latvian star will fit well in their system. (via Quinton Mayo)

“Kristaps Porzingis is an All-Star player whose unique talents will fit well within our system…He will get a fresh start with our team & provide us with the opportunity to play multiple lineups that feature size, versatility & shooting ability.”

The Wizards getting Kristaps Porzingis in a trade this season is mildly shocking, to say the least. The ex-New York Knicks star was thriving in Dallas, playing as a solid second fiddle to Luka Doncic's greatness. Fans expected him to be traded after an atrocious post-season, but seeing him play this great this season changed some of their minds.

Now, Porzingis will be playing for a Wizards team that is in limbo. The team was incredibly successful to start the year, going 10 – 2. However, since then, they've been struggling, currently sitting way behind in the Eastern Conference. Beal's season ending wrist surgery added more salt to the wound.

Aside from Dinwiddie, the Wizards also dealt Montrezl Harrell to the Hornets. This might the start of the Wizards shutting down a lost season and tanking for a better spot. With Porzingis, they at least get a serviceable star that can help them once Beal returns next season.
