Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic has been fined $15,000 by the NBA for hitting a referee in the leg with a ball in Sunday's Game 6 matchup against when the Mavs faced the Clippers.

Shams Charania of The Athletic shared news of the league's verdict on Wednesday afternoon:

The incident occurred in the third quarter of Sunday's game. Luka was whistled for an offensive foul as he drove towards the hoop. The Slovenian-born star refuted the call immediately, then proceeded to toss the ball towards the referee. It just so happened to hit him in the leg.

The ref blew his whistle and issued Doncic a technical foul. Whether or not there was any aggression in the toss is still up for debate, but the NBA clearly felt the need to deliver a message.

A look at Mavs star's ball toss:

Doncic logged 42 minutes in Game 6, racking up 38 points on 15-of-28 shooting from the field (4-of-9 from beyond the arc), nine assists, nine rebounds and one steal. Unfortunately, though, his efforts were not enough to stave off elimination for the Mavs, as the Clippers advanced with a 111-97 victory.

“I'm proud of our team, how we fight,” Doncic said after Game 6, via ESPN. “I think we fight until the end. The Clippers have an amazing team so it was hard, but I think we gave everything.”

With their 2019-20 campaign officially over, the Mavs will now look to improve for the coming season. Dallas was in its first postseason since 2016.
