One thing you cannot discredit top draft prospect Chet Holmgren for is his supreme confidence. The former Gonzaga standout had an encounter with Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic right after the Mavs were eliminated by the Golden State Warriors in the Western Conference Finals, and apparently, Holmgren thought it was a great time to hit Doncic with a bit of a warning shot.
Holmgren is expected to be a Top 3 pick in the upcoming draft and clearly, he just can't wait to go up against some of the best players in the NBA next season. As it turns out, the 20-year-old already has Luka Doncic in his crosshairs:
“I’ll see you out there next year,” Holmgren told the Mavs superstar (h/t Ben Golliver of the Washington Post).
In case you missed it, that's Mark Cuban AND Dirk Nowitzki standing beside Holmgren in the photo above. Along with Luka, these are easily three of the most prominent figures in Mavs franchise history, and the fact that they gave Holmgren the time of day speaks volumes of how much respect the 7-foot big man has earned even before he's entered the league.
I wonder how Luka responded to Holmgren's statement here. Doncic isn't the quiet type himself and I'm sure he clapped back at Holmgren here. Then again, I'm pretty sure the Mavs talisman would much rather make his point on the court when he gets the chance to face Holmgren next season.
