Luka Doncic was on a roll on Thursday Night during the Dallas Mavericks (Mavs) 112-105 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers. To start, he had 32 points in the first half, making it the highest-scoring first half across the league this season 2021-22. The numbers didn't end at halftime, however, as Doncic ended up thrashing the Clippers for nine rebounds, and six assists while shooting 17-26 from the field and 7-14 from three-point range.

Luka now has the most 30+ point halves in Mavericks' history (3), passing Michael Finley (2) and Dirk Nowitzki (2). Finley was a great player for the Mavs but Nowitzki is the franchise's greatest player. Although guys like Jason Kidd, Steve Nash, Finley, and many other legends of the game have worn the blue and green of Mark Cuban's squad, Nowitzki is seen as the best player to ever come through Dallas because of a few factors. First, he was a Hall-0f-Fame Talent within a few years into the league. Second, he won a championship in 2011. Third, he played for the Mavs for longer than any other player has played for any NBA franchise (21 years).

If Doncic plans to become the greatest Mavs player by the time he is done playing, he will likely just need to focus on the second and third things on the list. He is already a Hall-of-Fame player in terms of skills. The other two qualifications to be the greatest Dallas basketball player of all time will take hard work and patience and it seems that Luka is already putting the pieces together to make exactly that type of run.
