The Dallas Mavericks lost starting center Dwight Powell to a right Achilles injury early in their Tuesday showdown against the Los Angeles Clippers. The injury of the Mavs big man is expected to be severe, though he is yet to have an MRI on Wednesday to confirm the severity of the issue.

Powell's injury occurred without contact when the big man was attempting to drive to the basket from the perimeter in the first quarter of the game.

Regardless, the Mavs will be without a key piece for at least a while, so it undeniably affects the team as a whole.

After the game, Mavs second-year superstar Luka Doncic and a whole host of other NBA players took to Twitter to react to the news of Powell's injury and show their support.

Entering Tuesday's game, the 6-foot-10 big man was averaging 9.6 points and 5.7 rebounds per game on an efficient 64 percent shooting clip. While he was not a star like his teammate Doncic, Powell is a big part why the Mavs are in the thick of the playoff hunt in the tough Western Conference this season.

Other than Luka Doncic, Dwight Powell was also teammates with current Miami Heat power forward Kelly Olynyk. The two played together in 2013 during Powell's rookie season for the Boston Celtics. Powell was included in the trade that sent Rajon Rondo to Dallas in 2014.

Without Powell's energetic, athletic play, Dallas will have to rely more heavily on the services of fellow big men Kristaps Porzingis, Maxi Kleber and Boban Marjanovic.
