Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban has never been afraid to voice out products and services he's in full support of. Add cryptocurrencies to the Shark Tank judge's portfolio of publicly backed things.

The Mavs owner has been vocal on his franchise's support of Dogecoin as early as March of this year. Back then, he opened up sales using the cryptocurrency as payment. His reasons? Because he's a the team's billionaire owner and he can do whatever he wants.

Via Mavs' official website:

“The Mavericks have decided to accept Dogecoin as payment for Mavs tickets and merchandise for one very important, earth shattering reason, because we can!  Because we can, we have chosen to do so.  We have chosen to do so because sometimes in business you have to do things that are fun, engaging and hopefully generate a lot of PR. So we will take Dogecoin, today, tomorrow and possibly forever more.”

“For those of you who would like to learn more about Dogecoin we strongly encourage you to talk to your teenagers who are on TikTok and ask them about it. They will be able to explain it all to you,” shared Dallas Mavericks owner, Mark Cuban.”

Cuban more recently teased that there was going to be a Mavs merch sale with prices specifically catering to those willing to pay with Dogecoin. He announced it on his own Twitter account earlier in the week.

But of course, there's an apparent conflict of interest that could arise when a billionaire like Mark Cuban uses his influence to try to prop up Dogecoin. The cryptocurrency community expressed concern over the Mavs' owner's outright support for the coin, which some even claimed to be Cuban shilling the cryptocurrency.

Cuban responded, explaining his side of things and calling Dogecoin payments totally optional and the “people's way to pay”.

We'll just have to wait and see how this all unfolds. Hopefully the Mavs' season with Luka Doncic will be exciting enough to overshadow any Mark Cuban-Dogecoin drama.
