The Dallas Mavericks entered Game 2 in their western conference semifinals series with the Phoenix Suns in need of a win. They were rolled in Game 1 at Phoenix, 121-114. The final score was not in any way indicative of how lob sided the game was. The Mavs do not want to fall in an 0-2 hole.
In the Game 1 loss, Mavs superstar Luka Doncic balled out, dropping 45 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists. Obviously that wasn't enough. But don't tell Doncic that, as he is back at it in Game 2.
In the first half, Doncic backed down Suns defender Cam Johnson, and somehow managed to break his ankles in the paint.
Doncic, with his back to Johnson, spun off him which sent Johnson's body one direction and his ankles in another entirely. The Mavs star then went up for the bucket and mean-mugged the camera the stands.
That sent Twitter ablaze, with fans going absolutely bonkers reacting to it.
That's a valid question.
I think it's a fair assessment that Johnson's soul was at least stripped after that play.
Doncic was on fire in the first half Wednesday night, beyond just this play. He scored 24 of the 60 Mavs points, as Dallas held a 60-58 lead at the break.
The Dallas superstar typically does not have nearly as much flare to his game as, let's say Ja Morant, but he reminded everyone he is still incredibly skilled.
The Mavs are looking to even their series with the Suns, heading back to Dallas for Games 3 on Friday night.
