Though he's only 19 years of age, Mavs rookie Luka Doncic has already established himself as one of the NBA's brightest young stars. His level of talent is evident, and several of his peers are taking notice, including last year's Rookie of the Year winner, Ben Simmons.

In lieu of his breakout season, most experts and analysts are favoring Doncic as this season's ROTY. Simmons, who's enjoying a fine sophomore campaign, feels the same way.

Doncic has made 55 appearances with the Mavs this season (all starts), racking up averages of 20.7 points on 43.0 percent shooting from the field (34.8 percent from beyond the arc), 7.2 rebounds, 5.6 assists and one steal in 32.2 minutes per contest.

Doncic is the only teenager in NBA history to record multiple triple-doubles. He currently has three to his credit, but he nearly had a fourth in Wednesday night's loss to the Miami Heat. In 33 minutes of playing time, the Slovenian-born star scored 18 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists.

As of last week, Doncic was still the favorite to win this season's Rookie of the Year award, with DeAndre Ayton and Trae Young rounding out the top three.

When asked if he believes that the award is already coming his way, Doncic gave a humble reply:

“Everyone in the NBA is saying Luka Doncic is the rookie of the year,” a reporter said to Doncic in a recent interview. “Do you believe you've already won the award?”

“No,” Doncic replied without hesitation. “There are great players out there — great rookies. DeAndre Ayton, Trae Young, Marvin Bagley, they're all playing great. I haven't won it yet, for sure.”

Whether or not Doncic will indeed be this season's rookie of the year remains to be seen. Stay tuned.
