The Dallas Cowboys elected to part ways with longtime head coach Jason Garrett this week while a fellow Texan has come to his defense.

Dallas Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle is just the latest figure to chime in regarding the parting of ways between the once heralded Cowboys and the newly unemployed Garrett.

“They were coached at a high level,” Carlisle recently told Dwain Price of Mavs.com in regards to Garrett's time in Dallas with the Cowboys. “He'll have other great opportunities, I'm sure of that. His tenure there as the head coach was special for me, because it was an opportunity to develop a friendship with somebody who is an exceptional leader and an exceptional coach. I spent a lot of time over there during our lockout year in 2011 in the meetings, and also in subsequent years. I just really had great respect for the program that he built there.”

Garrett spent nearly a decade at the helm in Dallas. However, he was never able to bring a championship to the city despite coaching one of the most famous teams in all of sports.

Not only that, but Garrett and his Cowboys never even reached the NFC Championship Game and had minimal success in the playoffs along the way. On the other hand, the Mavs head coach has already led Dallas to a title as he understands just how difficult it is to win in Dallas.

The Cowboys have since reportedly hired former Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy, who previously won a Super Bowl as a head coach in Green Bay.
