Dallas Mavericks rookie Luka Doncic has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Oklahoma City Thunder; however, head coach Rick Carlisle suggests he could be sidelined longer.

Doncic suffered a right thigh contusion during Thursday's loss to the Miami Heat. It was a result of the knee-to-knee collision that happened earlier in the game, and it was his thigh that took the brunt of the accident.

Carlisle admitted that they will be “very prudent” on dealing with Doncic's injury, which means they won't allow their prized asset to play until he is completely healed and 100 percent fit to play.

“We're going to be very prudent with this and make sure that he's a hundred-percent before even thinking about him getting back out there,” Carlisle said, per Brad Townsend of the Dallas Morning News.

Including the OKC game, the Mavs have seven games left in the season. However, the team is already out of playoff contention in the tough Western Conference, so there is no pressure on them to rush Luka Doncic.

It remains to be seen how many games will the Slovenian wonderboy miss, but it's worth noting that Luka has only missed five games for the Mavs this campaign — only one is in back-to-back matches.

Doncic is averaging 21.1 points, 7.6 rebounds and 5.9 assists per contest this 2018-19 season. He is shooting 42.5 percent from the field, 32.7 percent from 3-point territory and 70.9 percent from the free-throw line. Luka is the front-runner for the Rookie of the Year award, with Atlanta Hawks rookie Trae Young the closest competitor for the honor.
