If you will ask Dallas Mavericks center Salah Mejri, the Rookie of the Year race between Mavs phenom Luka Doncic and Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young shouldn't even be a contest.

In an interview with Dwain Price of Mavs.com, Mejri said that Doncic should be the landslide winner of the ROY because of how consistent he's been throughout the season.

“The only guy who is not even close – people are saying he is close, but for me he’s not even close — is Trae Young. Trae Young is a great player and he’s going to be a very good player in this league, but he only started doing great things after the All-Star break.

“You’re comparing 20-something games to almost 80 games. I don’t know how people do that. For me, Luka is the Rookie of the Year. No discussion there.”

Mejri has a point. Luka Doncic averaged 21.2 points, 7.8 rebounds and 6.0 assists per game last season, and he was one of the Mavs' most consistent players throughout their 2018-19 campaign. As for Trae Young, he struggled through the first few months before finding his groove in the middle of the season. He finished with an average of 19.1 points and 8.1 assists per outing.

Regardless of the result though, there's no doubt that both players balled out through the year.
