Former NBA star Tim Hardaway Sr. thinks the Dallas Mavericks could be the team to fly under the radar and make waves in a wide-open Western Conference coming into the 2018-19 season. The point guard extraordinaire went on SiriusXM NBA Radio to explain why he's so high on the Mavs bandwagon.

“The Dallas Mavericks have been very hungry,” said Hardaway. “These guys, Tim [Hardaway Jr.] been hurt, he's 100% now. Porzingis missed the whole season last year, he's itching to get out there. This team, they're ready to win.

“I think [Mark] Cuban is setting the precedent that ‘guys, we have a nice nucleus, if we stay healthy we can do some damage here in this Western Conference, but we got to believe in what we got and we gotta come out here an play hard.' And that's what that team has to do, they gotta go out there and play hard and play together. It's gonna be tough for them to make it, but I think the Dallas Mavericks can make it into the playoffs again and this would be the year that they make the playoffs. Seventh or eighth spot. Just get in. Once you get in, anything can happen.”

Hardaway is very supportive of his son Jr., but the Mavs might actually have something brewing if they are at full health. If the duo of reigning Rookie of the Year Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis proves as lethal as Mark Cuban envisioned it, they might just squeak by as one of the last teams to punch a ticket in a tough Western Conference.
