After being attacked by a group of men in Latvia last week, many media reports seemed to say that Dallas Mavericks star Kristaps Porzingis was in much worse shape than he actually is, including the fact that he may have broken his hand. Thankfully for Porzingis, there seem to be no major injuries, as he’s been telling the Mavericks that nothing of the sort has happened.

According to the Dallas Morning News’ Brad Townsend, Porzingis is telling the Mavericks that his hand is not broken, which is contrary to what some unconfirmed reports have been speculating. This all stems from an altercation early last week at a club in Porzingis’ home country of Latvia. According to reports, a group of men attacked Porzingis, and video recordings show the star player with a cut on his face and ripped clothing.

While the video and reports didn’t note any specific injuries, it’s still hard to exactly pin down what happened. Police in Latvia are still investigating the cause of the altercation, with many believing that Porzingis was attacked by a group of Russian men who were angry that he was traded from the Knicks. Thankfully, it seems as if Porzingis was able to avoid any major injuries, but unfortunately, this is yet another off the court distraction for the star.

As Porzingis continues to rehab from a 2018 torn ACL, his name has been involved in a variety of stories, and it begs the question of what exactly the Mavericks think of all this behind closed doors. While Porzingis has been cleared for full contact and has participated in scrimmages with the team, it remains to be seen how he’ll fit in with the Mavericks next season.

If he’s able to continue to improve on his incredible skill, all of the drama surrounding him may be worth it for Mark Cuban and the Mavericks. Regardless, this is something that they’ll need to watch going forward.
