The Dallas Mavs are no longer without Luka Doncic as he made his return to the lineup against the San Antonio Spurs on Thursday. While he is accustomed to throwing flashy passes leading to assists, he was on the receiving end of a Seth Curry behind-the-back pass ending in a dunk.

The benefits that the Mavs experience from having true five-out spacing was put on full display during this particular sequence. Curry ran a high pick-and-roll while Kristaps Porzingis was setting an off-ball screen for Doncic in the weak-side corner. With Aldridge completely focused on the ball and Derrick White expecting a switch to take place, Dončić was left completely open for the back cut.

The Spurs have experienced some underachieving results on the defensive end of the floor this season. Against a Mavs team that entered this matchup with the top offensive rating in the league, it's expected that San Antonio's defense would have at least a few head-scratching errors.

It's intriguing to see the Mavs using a complementary player like Seth Curry as a playmaker in a way that led to an easy basket for Luka Doncic in his return to the lineup. He often has to shoulder a heavy load and immediately jumping back into that after an injury may not be the easiest thing.
