Michigan Wolverines coach Juwan Howard took all the headlines on Sunday night. The former NBA star was involved in a major altercation where he attacked an assistant coach after his team lost to the Wisconsin Badgers. It was an unsavory look for Howard, who has been involved in incidents like this before.

Pablo Iglesias was able to catch the exact moment after the Michigan – Wisconsin game that started the Juwan Howard altercation. The Wolverines coach was already heated after the Badgers (who were up by a wide margin at that point) called a timeout. When Greg Gard touched Howard to placate him, Howard blew up at him, saying, “Don't f—— touch me!”.

Howard was a former NBA journeyman who found success as a veteran presence on many rosters. After six years on the Miami Heat coaching staff, Howard finally landed a job at Michigan as the head coach. He found significant success on the program, especially last year. He was named the Big 10 Conference Coach of the Year, among other things.

After the incident, Howard was unapologetic for his actions. The Michigan coach stated that he was upset at the Wisconsin coaching staff for calling what he deemed was an unnecessary timeout. According to him, Gard touching his chest at the end of the game set off his need to protect himself.

Howard's frustrations with how the game went does not excuse his actions however. Keeping a cool head in every situation is one of the coach's biggest needs. It sets a bad example for the Michigan coach to act out the way he did in the face of frustration. It will be interesting to see what disciplinary actions the school or the conference hands out to Howard.
