As the start of this year’s free agency nears, teams are already preparing for it and have their eyes set on some players they want to add to their fold. One of them is the Denver Nuggets, who despite missing out on the playoffs still had a lot of positive takeaways from the campaign, especially the emergence of their starting center, Nikola Jokic, as a future star in the league.

The 22-year-old Serbian international surprised many with his impressive performances this year, including his veteran teammate, Mike Miller. He recently made an appearance on the Hastings and Helmer Showon Altitude Sports Radio and only had good words to say about him. He even hinted that it’s only matter of time before he becomes a superstar, and is a big reason for them to lure some big names to play in The Mile High City.

“I think the good thing that we have right now is Joker is one of those guys that everyone in the league is starting to take heed to and understand who he is. He’s one of those superstars, I think he’s going to be a superstar. I think you’ll see even more growth at the beginning of this next year, that everyone just wants to play with. He plays that style of basketball. I’ve compared him a lot to Marc and Pau Gasol, I think he’s a lot like that.”

Miller’s high praise for him says a lot about the team’s optimism that they can turn out to be a dark horse in the tough Western Conference. The Joker could be their franchise player and has already shown glimpses of his true potential with averages of 16.7 points, 9.8 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game.

Should the Nuggets be successful in adding key pieces to their roster this summer, it could be the difference for them to be perennial playoff contenders in the years to come, and also their chance to build around Jokic, who has been very promising for them.
