With the Chicago Cubs in sell mode at the MLB Trade Deadline, many of their big names could be on the move. One of those includes star shortstop Javy Baez.

While it's likely the Cubs certainly trade Kris Bryant and Craig Kimbrel given the conversations that have already been had, there seems to be more optimism that Chicago could opt to hang onto Anthony Rizzo and Baez and try to extend the two pending free agents.

Knowing his situation and the questions around it, the Cubs shortstop addressed his future on Mega 106.9 FM in an interview that was reposted by Yahoo.

“If I go to the free agency, I would like to play with Francisco Lindor,” Baez said during an interview with Mega 106.9 FM. “I loved playing with him in the World (Baseball) Classic. It is the only option I would take to play second base if it is to play with him, otherwise I stay playing at shortstop.”

Lindor is on the Mets and signed a massive extension with New York right before the season started. Baez' willingness to move to second base if he gets to team-up with the Mets' shortstop is certainly notable. And it can't have the Cubs feeling too great either.

Chicago is in a tough spot with so many of their core players set to hit free agency at the end of the year. The Cubs will have to decide whether to go into a full rebuild by trading Bryant, Baez, Rizzo and Kimbrel, trade just a couple and try to resign the others or surprise everyone and not trade any of the four, which is extremely unlikely. If they opt not to trade Baez, it could come back to bite them in the offseason if he chooses to sign elsewhere.
