Encarnacion has been sidelined since last month due to a wrist fracture he sustained from being hit by a pitch against the Boston Red Sox on Aug. 3.
New York originally acquired Encarnacion in a trade with the Seattle Mariners back in June. Since arriving in The Big Apple, Encarnacion has slashed .238/.327/.497 with nine home runs and 27 RBI over 162 plate appearances. On the season overall, he owns a slash line of .240/.346/.518 with 30 long balls and 76 RBI across 451 trips to the dish.
The 36-year-old was originally selected by the Rangers in the ninth round of the 2000 MLB Draft but never actually played a big-league game for Texas before being dealt to the Cincinnati Reds in June 2001.
Encarnacion made his MLB debut in 2005, slashing .232/.308/.436 with nine dingers and 31 RBI through 234 plate appearances. He then had a breakout season of sorts the following year, posting a slash line of .276/.359/.437 with 15 homers and 72 RBI over 467 trips to the plate.
Encarnacion spent the first four and a half seasons of his career with the Reds before being traded to the Toronto Blue Jays midway through the 2009 campaign.
He would go on to enjoy a spectacular run in Toronto, making three All-Star teams and bashing over 40 home runs twice.
The Dominican then spent two years with the Cleveland Indians before being dealt to the Mariners this past offseason.
He owns a career slash line of .262/.352/.498 with 410 homers.
