Robbie Ray may have just pitched his best game to date for the Seattle Mariners. He struck out 10 batters and allowed just one run and one walk in seven complete innings. Unfortunately, this game will only be remembered for his blown no-hitter.
With two outs in the seventh inning, Ray drew a ground ball coming right at him from Los Angeles Angels catcher Max Stassi. He flubbed the fielding play and it was scored as a hit. In the eighth inning, he immediately allowed two extra-base hits and a run and was removed from the game. The Mariners won 8-1 over their division rival.

Ray losing the chance to complete his first-ever no-hitter stings but he is not getting too down about it. According to Daniel Kramer of MLB.com, the Mariners' marquee pitcher laughed off how easy of a play it was and said that it was still a great game.
“I think because I’m the one who caused it,” Ray, again smiling, said of his reaction. “And it was just such an easy play. It was just funny, that's how it ended. I mean, it was still a great outing. I felt like I had everything going for me, so it was really good.”
After winning the AL Cy Young award, Ray hasn't been super good in Seattle. He has an ERA of 4.25 with 91 strikeouts in 84.5 innings. The Mariners are struggling to live up to their expectations from last season after making several moves this offseason. Their postseason drought, the longest active drought in baseball, will likely continue.
