The St. Louis Cardinals are looking to gain some ground on the Milwaukee Brewers in the NL Central and are prepared to dip into their farm system to do so. According to Derrick Goold, Cardinals star second base prospect Nolan Gorman is expected to be promoted to the MLB team on Friday and make his big-league debut against the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park.

Goold indicates that Gorman will star at second base for the Cardinals, in what should be a highly-coveted debut for the 22-year-old infielder.

Gorman is heralded by MLB Pipeline as the Cardinals' No. 2 overall prospect, ranking only behind third baseman Jordan Walker. Gorman was the Cardinals' first-round pick in the 2019 MLB Draft out of Sandra Day O'Connor High School in Arizona.

At Triple-A this season, Gorman has slashed .308/.367/.677 with a 1.044 OPS and a remarkable 15 home runs in 34 games. He's showcasing immense power at the plate, and he's producing at an insanely high level. With the Cardinals not getting much production from the middle infield, having already sent Paul De Jong back down to the minors, they'll bring up Gorman for his long-awaited MLB debut.

As it stands, Tommy Edman, Brendan Donovan, and Edmundo Sosa make up the entirety of St. Louis' middle infield depth. That doesn't inspire much optimism, particularly on the offensive side of things, so the decision to call up Gorman could be a fruitful one.

MLB Pipeline lists Gorman as its No. 29 overall prospect, and he's considered the No.2 second base prospect in all of baseball, too. Cardinals fans will finally get a chance to see the slugging infielder up against the game's highest competition, and will soon get to see whether or not he's ready to stick around in the big leagues.
