While the pain of their World Series loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers could still be there for the Toronto Blue Jays, they still can't let their emotions get in the way of their offseason plans. If anything, the frustrating end of their pursuit of a World Series ring in 2025 could further fan the flames of their desire to get better in the offseason, and one way to do it is to lure top available talent in the free agent market.
With that said, outfielder Kyle Tucker is regarded by many as the top target for MLB teams in the offseason. Tucker is coming off a solid 2025 campaign with the Chicago Cubs, who also made a deep postseason run in the playoffs.
In 2025, Tucker, who will turn just 29 years old in January, slashed .266/.377/.464 with 22 home runs and 73 RBIs through 136 games for the Cubs. He also posted a 143 OPS+ and a 4.6 bWAR. It was the fifth season in a row in which he had a bWAR of at least 4.0. And dating back to his days with the Houston Astros, the four-time All-Star has batted .272/.366/.502 with 104 home runs and a 144 OPS+ in the last four seasons.
All those numbers are salivating reasons why he's arguably the biggest name in the free agent market following the 2025 MLB season.
It will likely come down to which team will have the best offer for Tucker, and for the Blue Jays, their pocket seems deep enough to put together a sizeable offer for the star outfielder.
“They just earned an extra $50 million or so in revenue from their World Series run. They’ll put it right back into the team and could be the favorite for Kyle Tucker,” wrote Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY.
Toronto's outfield was among the best in hitting in 2025. In fact, the Blue Jays' outfielders as a group were fourth in the big leagues last season in both wOBA (.333) and wRC+ (114), per FanGraphs, thanks in large part to the bats of Georgei Springer and Addison Barger. But adding Tucker to the Blue Jays' outfield should unlock an even scarier offense from that group and help the team in its mission to complete the mission they fell just a win short of accomplishing in 2025.
