Few game franchises receive film adaptations and even fewer get reboots. Mortal Kombat, the massively successful fighting game franchise, gets another modern retelling with a brand new film adaptation. Warner Bros. initially planned for the film to be released on April 16 but certain factors officially pushed the date back by one week. The movie releases in both Theaters and on HBO Max in line with WarnerMedia's roadmap of releasing movies.

HBO announced the date change via a press release sent out to multiple publications. The announcement failed to include why the film release moved back seven days but many fans still await the premiere of the long-awaited Mortal Kombat adaptation.

WAITING FOR MORTAL KOMBAT

The upcoming film features famous MK characters such as Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Liu Kang, Raiden, and many more. The trailer shows that the film reboot will still tell the franchise's story of an inter-dimensional fighting tournament with high stakes involved.

Director Simon McQuoid promised to be true to do source material as he aims to push the limits of the film's R-Rating. Naturally, many fans expect to see blood and gore in the film. Mortal Kombat became famous among fighting game franchises for its use of graphic depictions of violence.

McQuoid makes his feature film debut with the Mortal Kombat project. He previously primarily worked on commercials. Additionally, he directed a series of live-action commercials for PlayStation in the past. His lack of experience with films may cause concern but the trailer paints a hopeful picture for the results of the Mortal Kombat film adaptation.

Delays usually spell painfully long wait times for any piece of media to come out. Fortunately, the Mortal Kombat movie delay only lasts seven days. Fans of the original video game series and the first film adaptations can get their hands on the film on April 23, 2021.
