The Washington Nationals have offered third baseman Anthony Rendon a seven-year deal worth between $210-215 million, according to Barry Svrluga of The Washington Post.

The Nationals made the offer earlier in September, but Svrluga notes that the offer is not expected to keep Rendon from exploring his options in free agency this offseason.

Rendon just had the best regular season of his major-league career, slashing .319/.412/.598 with 34 home runs, 126 RBI, and 44 doubles over 646 plate appearances, resulting in his first All-Star appearance.

The 29-year-old was originally selected by the Atlanta Braves in the 27th round of the 2008 MLB Draft, but instead elected to play collegiate baseball at Rice University. Then, three years later, he was chosen by the Washington Nationals with the sixth overall pick.

Rendon made his big-league debut in 2013, registering a slash line of .265/.329/.396 with seven long balls and 35 RBI across 394 trips to the dish.

He became a full-time starter the following year and was much more impressive, slashing .287/.351/.473 with 21 dingers, 39 doubles, and 38 RBI through 683 plate appearances.

But it was not until 2017 when Rendon became an elite third baseman, as he slashed .301/.403/.533 with 25 homers, 41 doubles, and 100 RBI over 605 trips to the plate.

Rendon repeated his success in 2018, slashing .308/.374/.535 with 24 home runs, 44 doubles, and 92 RBI across 597 plate appearances.

In addition to being a terrific hitter, Rendon also fields his position incredibly well, making him one of the best all-around players in baseball.

The Nationals won 93 games on the season and will play host to the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Wild Card Game on Tuesday night.
