NBA Awards news: Dwane Casey wins Coach of the Year award

Dwane Casey

The second-ever NBA Awards bring forward some of the best players, coaches, and plays, recognizing the best of the best throughout a long 82-game NBA season. TNT televised this awards ceremony in conjunction with the NBA, giving the players the opportunity to celebrate these accomplishments in front of their peers.

COACH OF THE YEAR AWARD

WINNER: Dwane Casey

Dwane Casey helped the Toronto Raptors to an Eastern Conference-best 59 wins, but was then fired by the team after a second consecutive sweep out of the playoffs.

Casey managed a complete re-invention of his All-Star backcourt offense, taking the pressure off Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan and allowing his bench and role players to flourish throughout a long 82-game season.

The 61-year-old was also picked by a jury of his peers for the award, a reason why it didn’t take long for him to get back on the horse, shortly hired by the Detroit Pistons as their new head coach.
