In the last several months, there has been a huge discussion around the NBA regarding the use of resting of players through the season.

During a recent interview with Sam Amick of The USA TODAY Sports, commissioner Adam Silver voiced that he doesn't believe that an 82-game regular season schedule isn't too taxing even if international travel was added to the schedule.

“There’s nothing magical about 82 games,” Silver continued. “It’s been in place for 50 years, but for the long-term planning of the league, as we learn more about the human body and the wear and tear of travel and the competitive landscape … invariably we’ll look at the regular season. And in looking at the regular season, it may create more opportunities for international franchises.”

It shouldn't be surprising to hear that Silver has come out with that stance given the direction that league has taken. The NBA has also made an effort to adjust to this growing trend by spreading out the schedule to significantly decrease the back-to-back games and completely eliminate four games in five days.

This was made in order to help alleviate any potential argument that could arise from players stating that there is not enough time spread throughout the season. It had become a bigger topic of conversation this past season due to teams like the Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors resting healthy players for nationally televised games.

With the league taking action to better accommodate its players, this will be a trial test to see how things will pan out this upcoming season.
