NBA commissioner Adam Silver joined the NBA on TNT crew to talk about the novel coronavirus which has paralyzed the league in the foreseeable future. Apart from giving an update on the steps that the NBA plans to undertake to contain the virus' spread, Silver shared some of the information he gathered from the various medical experts he has spoken with.

According to Silver, some medical experts have a theory that the COVID-19 may ‘peter out a little bit' as the weather changes. However, Silver pointed out that this is still a theory. Even those who are studying the coronavirus are still trying to figure it out.

“Of course it’s possible,” Silver said. “I just don’t know more at this point. There’s another factor that may go to the seasonality of this virus. I’ve talked to a lot of experts. Some have a theory that it’s just as with the common flu: As the weather changes, we may see it begin to peter out a little bit. Again, we don’t know. At this point, we’re just waiting.”

As of this writing, Utah Jazz players Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell have tested positive for the virus. It is still not clear where they contracted it.

Minutes after news broke that Gobert tested positive, Silver quickly announced that the 2019-20 NBA season will be suspended indefinitely. According to him, the league will likely not resume play for at least 30 days.

In the meantime, the NBA front office will use the downtime to think of ways how they can prevent the virus' spread as well as how the 2019-20 season will pan out.
