The NBA All-Star game in recent years was a monotonous competition between most of the NBA's best players. In these games,  players would notoriously throw up deep 3-pointers, attempt insane dunks, and allow their opponents to score without an effort to play any defense.

To say the least, the All-Star was game in previous years was boring and repetitive. It was the same every year and fans were starting to grow tired of it.

Last year, the NBA front office and the Player's' Association met to discuss possible changes in the traditional All-Star game format. Both parties decided that change is needed to rectify the All-Star festivity and the necessary arrangements were made.

Long story short,  players that received the most votes became team captains. These stars were allowed to select from a pool of All-Stars and form their own team to compete in Sunday night's game. Interestingly, the game received great reception and the players actually competed for a change.

Yet, this doesn't mean that the game can't improve in the future. In fact, Reddit user NitsujHpesoj came up with an idea about adding another award to the All-Star Game. According to the Redditor, a Defensive Player of the Game award to the current format could be used next year. In past years, this addition would have been ironic since no one usually played defense. But with the league's conscious effort in adding that aspect to the All-Star Game, this suggestion could be beneficial.

It is apparent that this year's game had some great defensive play. At the end of the game, LeBron James and Kevin Durant successfully trapped Stephen Curry, sealing the win for the team. Therefore, it is a feasible idea for players to get rewarded for their defensive contributions.
