The Junior Basketball Association run by Lavar Ball finished up its inaugural season this month with the LA Ballers claiming the league's first championship. The Ballers star studded roster featured LaMelo Ball, LiAngelo Ball and a host of other talented players seeking an alternative route to their professional basketball dreams. However, Ex-JBA Brandon Phillips claims that he didn't have the best time in this new experimental league.

“I can’t really speak on the matter because it is being handled legally,” Phillips told Amico Hoops. “But if I could go back in time I would’ve taken the college route for sure.”
Phillips made the Los Angeles Ballers as a walk-on, after hearing about the tryout from a friend. He seized the opportunity to gain exposure and help his chances of playing professionally overseas or in the NBA. He was cut from the team before their championship. Members of the the Ballers received 2018 Cadillacs for their title run, something Phillips missed out on. To make matters worse, Phillips says he was not paid the $3,000 a month players were promised before the season began and was forced to pay out of pocket for baggage during the teams travels.
Ultimately, Phillips does not blame Lavar for his bad experience in the JBA and believes if he was made aware of his circumstances, he would have taken action to correct things. Phillips will continue to try to find a solution to his NCAA eligibility problems while this this investigation continues.
