Dwyane Wade cites Shawn Kemp, Gary Payton as inspiration for lobs with LeBron James

Former Miami Heat teammates Dwyane Wade and LeBron James were arguably one of the most prolific duos the NBA has ever seen, thanks to their unworldly athleticism and excellent court vision.

A few days after James reminisced about their time together by watching their old alley-oop highlights, Wade revealed the source of inspiration for their gravity-defying lobs.

The Flash shared a montage of former Seattle SuperSonics All-Stars Gary Payton and Shawn Kemp.

Payton and Kemp, known best as “The Glove” and “Reign Man” connection, was one of the most feared duos in the mid ’90s.

With his excellent feel for the game, Payton dished out pin-point dimes in Kemp’s way, which the latter usually finished by way of forceful rim-rockers. The pair were the original proponents of “Lob City” even before the term was popularly coined in today’s NBA.

Their pick-and-roll game was pretty much unstoppable at the time, as they led the Sonics to the NBA Finals in 1996. However, they went on to lose to Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls in six games.

Dwyane Wade and LeBron James, on the other hand, usually took turns in terms of dishing and receiving their alley-oop plays.

Wade, who is now retired and shifted to analyst work for TNT, joins the long list of players relying on highlight clips to keep them entertained during the NBA hiatus.

Wade has been active on social media as well, calling his youngest daughter a “mood”, while also playing in a make-shift hoop with his wife Gabrielle Union.
