Basketball Hall of Famer Lenny Wilkens was the recipient of a tremendous honor of late after a street was named after him in downtown Seattle.

As reported by Geoff Baker of the Seattle Times, no less than city mayor Jenny Durkan made the announcement that Lenny Wilkens Way will be parallel to Seattle's famed KeyArena, which is expected to undergo a $930-million upgrade in the near future.

As a player, Wilkens played for the Seattle SuperSonics between 1968 and 1972. The 6-foot-1 point guard made the All-Star team in three out of his four seasons with the team, en route to becoming one of the most prominent players in the franchise, despite his rather brief stay with the club. Wilkens boasts averages of 19.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 9.0 assists in his four-year stint with Seattle.

However, what made Wilkens a household name in the city is his decorated tenure as the team's head coach. Wilkens was the head honcho for the Sonics for a combined 11 seasons, and during this span, he led the team to their one and only championship in franchise history in 1979.

Much like many others who have long been hoping for a return to the NBA for the city of Seattle, Wilkens himself has been quite active in the lobbying of the same. While there has recently been a lot of talk about this, there has, unfortunately, been no concrete plans of a potential return to the league for this sports-loving city. Then again, a close to a billion-dollar renovation of their stadium should definitely help in achieving this objective.
