Mavs shooting guard Luka Doncic and Hawks point guard Trae Young have been unanimously selected as members of the 2018-19 NBA All-Rookie First Team:

With an overall record of 33-49, the 2018-19 campaign didn't go as planned for the Mavs. Despite that fact, Doncic enjoyed a great season. The Slovenian-born star made 72 appearances with Dallas (all starts), racking up averages of 21.2 points on 42.7 percent shooting from the field (32.7 percent from beyond the arc), 7.8 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 1.1 steals in 32.2 minutes per outing.

Among his rookie classmates, Doncic finished at or near the top in several statistical categories, including points per game (1st), assists per game (2nd to Trae Young), rebounds per game (2nd) and steals per game (5th).

As for Young, he too enjoyed a fine rookie year, though his Hawks registered a 29-53 overall record. Through 81 games played (all starts), the 2018 fifth overall pick turned in averages of 19.1 points on 41.8 percent shooting from the field (32.4 percent from the 3-point line), 8.1 assists, 3.7 rebounds and just under one steal (0.9) in 30.9 minutes per contest.

Young led his rookie classmates in assists by quite a wide margin, and Doncic was the only other player to even come close. In March, Young recorded 174 points and 52 assists over a five-game span. The only other rookie in NBA history to achieve that feat was Oscar Robertson (March 1961).

It's tough to say what next season will hold for Doncic and Young, but there is no doubt they'll continue to be the focal points of their respective teams.

As for the rest of the selections, with Deandre Ayton, Jaren Jackson Jr. and Marvin Bagley III rounding out the All-Rookie First Team, this marks the first time since 1984-85 that the top five picks of the previous draft make up the squad:

Meanwhile, the LA Clippers got two players on the All-Rookie Second Team.
