Turner Sports will no longer continue with the broadcast of “Players Only” NBA games, which became a regular portion of NBA TV's Tuesday night slate. According to Richard Deitsch of The Athletic, TNT will continue to do some Players Only-type content, but will abandon the broadcasting of games through that moniker.

The show often featured a four-pronged analyst table, but unlike the popular Inside The NBA that airs right before Thursday night doubleheaders, it was moderated strictly by former NBA players.

Players Only included voices from popular NBA names like former sharpshooter Dennis Scott, Hall of Famer Isiah Thomas, Sam Mitchell, Greg Anthony, while getting play-by-play and color analysis by the likes of Brent Barry, Derek Fisher, and Kevin McHale. The show also included former WNBA stars like Lisa Leslie as the sideline reporter.

Players Only drew mixed reviews, some loving the unique perspective of former NBA players throughout the whole experience while others noticed how often the show would turn into a roundtable of opinions, NBA stories and little analysis of the game at hand.

The show was an effort to enhance NBA viewership for the channel on earlier days of the week, but the ratings did not warrant another season after the show debuted on Feb. 27, 2017 — shortly after the All-Star break.

Players Only is the second most prominent show that has been canceled by Turner, after the media magnate announced last month that it will no longer include The Starters in their daily run.
