What a night for Miami Heat's Jimmy Butler.

The 31-year old leader for the Heat had a monster game in Game 3 as he took control of the game and notched a 40-point triple-double on Sunday which ultimately made the difference and helped the Heat edge over the Los Angeles Lakers with a 115-104 win.

Butler is only the third player in NBA Finals history to pull off a 40-point triple-double. The last player to do it was none other than LeBron James.

Butler's epic evening didn't only tie James' 40-point triple-double tally. Per Marc J. Spears of ESPN, Butler became the first player to outscore, outrebound and out-assist James in his 52 games in the NBA Finals. That includes James' teammates.

That just speaks volumes of how incredible Jimmy Butler's evening was.

Though James obviously has the advantage over the Heat forward, Butler isn't backing down from the challenge. Every time their teams meet throughout the course of their respective careers, Butler has been up for the task to guard James and has found ways to be effective against one of the best players in the league right now. On Sunday, Butler used his scoring to outmatch James and it was clearly the winning recipe for a Game 3 victory.

The Heat needed a big night from Butler on Sunday and the five-time All-Star surely delivered. Butler has now played back-to-back 45-minute games and is clearly putting the team on his broad shoulders. Even with James and Anthony Davis on the other side of the court, Butler has managed to surpass these two so far and currently leads the series in scoring with 29.3 points in the first three games of the series.
