June 12, 2017 marked the last time LeBron James and Kyrie Irving played as teams, after the Cleveland Cavaliers lost to the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals in five games. While the LeBron James-Kyrie Irving partnership ended on a sour note, there are rumors that the two apparently planned a future together with Paul George in Cleveland.

Ahead of the Dallas Mavericks and the Los Angeles Lakers' showdown on Wednesday, ESPN's Ramona Shelburne reported that the two stars discussed shortly after losing the 2017 NBA Finals about the Cavaliers potentially trading for George to join them.

“Another source close to both players points to an emotional players-only meeting in the locker room following Game 5 of the 2017 Finals in which James and Irving talked at length, not only about the season they'd just played but a shared vision for the future that included trading for then-Indiana Pacers swingman Paul George,” Shelburne wrote.

“George told ESPN that he and James had dinner at James' house in Los Angeles following the 2017 season and discussed a potential partnership.”

George has gone on record that he was close to becoming a Cavalier when he was still with the Indiana Pacers. Ultimately, he was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the 2017 offseason. Meanwhile, Irving requested a trade out of Cleveland in that same summer and was eventually shipped to the Boston Celtics.

Cavs fans can really only dream at this point what that trio would have looked like. Likewise, NBA fans could only salivate at how epic a Warriors vs. Cavaliers NBA Finals would have looked. Just picture Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green going up against LeBron James, Paul George, and Kyrie Irving — all in their prime.
