There is increasing skepticism that the Memphis Grizzlies and Charlotte Hornets can complete a Marc Gasol trade before the Feb. 7 trade deadline, according to Sean Deveney of Sporting News.

The Hornets and Grizzlies do not have an agreement in place. Gasol didn't play on Tuesday against the Minnesota Timberwolves at home, making people around the league believe a trade was close to happening.

Turns out, that may not be the case anymore:

But league sources told Sporting News that the Hornets and Grizzlies do not have an agreement in place, and that there is increasing skepticism on both sides that a trade can be brought to bear ahead of Thursday’s NBA trade deadline. The Hornets have had interest in Gasol for some time, but a deal has not progressed.

Hornets owner Michael Jordan wants to make the playoffs this season and surround All-Star point guard Kemba Walker with more talent. Adding Marc Gasol would be helpful for the Hornets, who are in the seventh spot in the Eastern Conference standings.

Gasol is averaging 15.7 points, 8.6 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game this season for the Grizzlies.

The three-time All-Star and former Defensive Player of the Year is shooting shooting 44.4 percent from the field, 34.4 percent from beyond the arc and 75.6 percent from the foul line.
