Past and current NBA players have expressed their views on the events unfolding in Washington DC currently, as protesters occupied the Senate chambers in the Capitol building.
The Senate was set to debate President-elect Joe Biden's victory in this past presidential election over Donald Trump and the counting of the electoral votes, which has been a pressing issue.
Current NBA players such as Trae Young, Garrett Temple, Ja Morant and Jamal Murray spoke about the events occurring in DC:
It’s sad to think we knew this was comin though ! 😔🤦🏽♂️

I scan my timeline and keep seeing the word “embarrassing.” I’m not embarrassed, I’m not surprised, or shocked even. Embarrassed would mean that I feel a sense of shame by what is going on. I have no such feeling. These people do not come close to being a representation of me 🤷🏾♂️

This is not the first time the NBA has reacted to political matters that have divided the country. This past season, the league and its players used their platform to support the Black Lives Matter movement. From canceling games towards the end of the season to attending BLM rallies all over the country, the players united with citizens to speak on the reality of being a black individual in the nation.
On Wednesday, players brought up how a BLM movement was to be perceived if it went to the same extent as the protests occurring in the Senate.

This is what Isaiah Thomas and Garrett Temple had to say:
Our heads woulda been blown off already…. This is crazy

When we do anything “THEY” are scared for they’re lives. When Trumps homies get down they got every excuse in the book to make sure things are ok smh. This stuff is crazy!!! https://t.co/WPH2xWtRCd

This is the epitome of white privilege and Trumps ideal ending to his presidency!!

So far, a woman has been shot in the Capitol building and the DC national guard has been called on to help neutralize the situation, according to the Washington Post.
The country can only hope that the situation does not worsen from this point on, and the NBA and its players will continue to voice their opinions on the matter without any hesitation.
