The Atlanta Hawks are reaching out to their fanbase by hosting a marketing competition that shares similarities to the popular television show Shark Tank. The show will be called ‘Agency Shootout’ and it will air later this month.
Some of Atlanta’s leading marketing agencies will complete high-pressure, Hawks-centric business challenges in front of a panel of judges that includes former NBA star and member of Hawks front office, Grant Hill.
In addition to the exposure they will receive, the agencies will be able to choose a charity for a donation from the Atlanta Hawks Foundation and will be officially recognized by the organization.
When speaking to USA TODAY Sports, Hawks executive vice president and chief marketing officer Melissa Proctor made her ambitions clear:
“Our goal as an organization is to entertain and unite the city of Atlanta through basketball, and there are a lot of unique ways to do that,” Proctor said. “I believe that through this idea of the Agency Shootout, it was really looking at our B2B community and thinking, ‘How can we, as an organization, engage brands within the city as well as the creative community to kind of bring them together in a unique setting?'”
Hill is now an accomplished businessman and he became a partial owner of the Hawks last summer after retiring from the NBA in 2013 following a long, successful career. He believes that the competition will bring the people of Atlanta together:
“It's a really great idea, our organization just thinking and being creative ourselves, coming up with this whole concept,” Hill said. “It's really about bringing people together in Atlanta, and I think tapping into our creative community. One of our many creative communities.”
While Hawks fans count the days until the next NBA season, they will continue to be entertained by this fresh, innovative idea.
