The Atlanta Hawks updated the status of second-year big man John Collins Monday, and it looks like the 21-year-old still has a ways to go before he can make his 2018-19 season debut.
In a statement, the Hawks said John Collins has continued progression in his rehabilitation from mild inflammation and soreness in his left ankle. He has progressed to modified on-court drills and shooting routines with the goal of integrating him into modified team practice in the coming weeks.
During his rookie season last year, Collins played in 74 regular season games and averaged 10.5 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 1.3 assists while shooting 57.6 percent from the field, 34.0 percent from beyond the arc and 71.5 percent from the free-throw line.
The Hawks selected John Collins with the 19th overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft out of Wake Forest University.

Atlanta entered Monday with a record of 3-6. They have three games this week before departing on a west coast road trip. It has been undermined if Collins will join the team on the road.
Whenever he does return to the lineup, John Collins will be the starting power forward for the Hawks.
For now, the Hawks will continue to rely on the likes of Alex Len, Dewayne Dedmon, and Omari Spellman for help in the frontcourt.
