Atlanta Hawks veteran small forward Vince Carter knows his final season in the NBA is going to be “an emotional roller coaster.”
Carter is going to retire from the NBA after the 2019-20 season ends, which means he's going to get a “farewell tour” à la Dwyane Wade.
The Hawks swingman isn't looking forward to it.
Article Continues Below“It’s going to be an emotional roller coaster—it really is. I know each day is going to be the last of something,” Carter told Jacob Feldman of Sports Illustrated. “Honestly, it’s going to be awful. I don’t even think I’ll have fun. I just want to get into the season.”
Vince Carter averaged 7.4 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 2018-19 with the Hawks. He shot 41.9 percent from the field, 38.9 percent from beyond the arc and 71.2 percent from the free-throw line.
Hopefully, the Hawks can make the playoffs next season so we get to see Carter play in the postseason one final time.
Whether he likes it or not, Carter is going to get standing ovations during road games next season. After all, fans want to pay homage to an NBA legend. Carter, one of the best dunkers in NBA history, is an eight-time All-Star and was the 1999 Rookie of the Year. It’s amazing he’s still in basketball shape after all these years. It's a testament to how he's taken care of his body.
Carter entered the league back in 1998 with the Toronto Raptors. He has career averages of 17.2 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.2 assists in 1,481 games with the Raptors, New Jersey Nets, Orlando Magic, Phoenix Suns, Dallas Mavericks, Memphis Grizzlies, Sacramento Kings and Hawks.
