It’s no secret that Dwight Howard’s stint with his hometown team, the Atlanta Hawks, did not turn out as planned. He only lasted one season there after signing a lucrative deal in the summer of 2016. However, that did not stop the team to honor him with a weird tribute video on Wednesday when the Charlotte Hornets visited Philips Arena.

The eight-time All-Star center even received a standing ovation from the Hawks fans, after the 30-second video was shown, where they thanked him for “Staying True to Atlanta.”

It can be recalled that Howard chose to sign with the Hawks over all his suitors during free agency, but following a season where they were not able to have a deep playoff run, the team ultimately decided to trade him. The Hornets sent the 31st and 41st pick of last June’s draft, along with Marco Belinelli and Miles Plumlee in exchange for the former three-time Defensive Player of the Year.

Now with the Hornets, Howard is once again not having a lot of success with them as the team is only in 11th place in the Eastern Conference with a 21-29 record. Howard and the Hornets had the last laugh on the night though as they came out with a victory, 123-110, in what can be considered a “revenge game” for him.

He recorded a huge double-double with 20 points, 12 rebounds, and two assists. The Hawks, on the other hand, were led by Kent Bazemore's 25 points, five assists, and Belinelli's 22 points and three rebounds in a losing effort.
