Damian Lillard is finally an All-Star again after missing the cut the past two years. The Portland Trail Blazers point guard wasn’t selected to participate in previous All-Star Games as the Western Conference had a number of deserving playmakers vying for a spot.

The moment that Lillard found out was captured on video by Andrew Gleason who congratulated him when it was officially announced by the NBA.

Lillard is the undisputed leader of the Blazers the past few years especially after power forward LaMarcus Aldridge left the team in 2015 to join the San Antonio Spurs. Since then, the Blazers have had a tough time competing, but Lillard’s play is not to blame.

Now in his sixth season, Lillard is averaging 25.2 points, 4.8 rebounds, 6.6 assists, and 1.0 steal per game. Despite having similar numbers the previous two years, the coaches have rewarded Lillard’s hard work and consistency this year.

There was speculation that Lillard might not be voted in once again due to the emergence of Lou Williams as a high-scoring guard for the L.A. Clippers. Williams was making a case for his inclusion to All-Star weekend’s biggest event when he ran off a series of games scoring 30 points or more. That run included a 50-point game versus the Golden State Warriors which the Clippers won.

But the Weber State University alum would not be denied for the third year in a row. Lillard is carrying the team on his back once again as the Blazers are in seventh place in the tough Western Conference.

The 2018 NBA All-Star Game will be held on Sunday, Feb. 18 at 8:00 pm ET at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
