There haven't been many exciting parts for the struggling Boston Celtics this season. They're 2-5 on the season and have some ugly losses. Boston didn't do much this offseason and with their struggles last season it isn't surprising they're still struggling.
A team with Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown should never struggle as much as they are. Add in an elite Defender like Marcus Smart, a veteran Al Horford who is playing better than they could've expected, and Robert Williams. Their struggles don't make much sense, but as we've seen, they're struggling.
There has been one good sign for the Celtics team, that's the surprising play of Al Horford. If someone said that Al Horford was going to play the way that he's played for Boston so far, you'd expect they'd be a top-three team in the whole NBA. This just hasn't been the case. Luckily for Boston, they will expect more efficiency from Brown and Tatum. Once that happens, and if Horford can keep up this play, Boston will be in a good spot.
Al Horford has shocked many people this year. The veteran forward took the year off last year and signed with the Celtics in the offseason. He's had a long history in Boston and that might be contributing to his play.
This season Al Horford has not only been the most surprising player for the Celtics but possibly the whole NBA.
He's playing over 30 minutes a night which is something that the Celtics definitely didn't think that they were going to get from him. He's also averaging a double-double, with 14.4 points per game and 10.4 rebounds per game. Horford leads the Celtics in PER, too.
Horford is playing like how he was when he was in his twenties. The production that he's given the Celtics at 35 years of age is nothing short of impressive.
If Horford continues this play it'll be tough to imagine that the Celtics continue being this bad. They need to capitalize on Horford's play because he can be exactly what they needed to get them over the hump to win a championship.
There's been a lot of disappointments for the Celtics this year. Marcus Smart even came out and expressed his displeasure with the offense. It doesn't seem like things are going too well in the Celtics locker room, but having a veteran like Horford might be able to keep the team calm and collected throughout the year.
The Celtics are going to look to improve their play as they have some games coming up that are going to be tough. The bottom line for the Celtics is that Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown need to simply be better for them. They also need to do something about their offense because right now it's too many isolation plays.
Luckily for Boston, Horford has been much better than they could have ever expected. They will look to turn things around here soon. They will take on the Orlando Magic on Wednesday night. Orlando is a team that the Celtics should be able to beat and it could get be the start for them to turn things around.
