Boston Celtics center Aron Baynes could be suiting up for the team's Sunday afternoon matchup against the Houston Rockets.

The 32-year-old big man is reportedly “very close” to returning from his foot injury, according to ESPN's Tim Bontemps.

Baynes hasn't appeared in a game for Boston since Feb. 1 against the New York Knicks when he suffered a contusion to his right foot.

Head coach Brad Stevens has been hankering to get one of his best frontcourt role playing options back into the fold. Though it's taken a fair amount of patience for Stevens and the rest of the roster, the plan looks to be getting Baynes ready for Houston this weekend.

“From everything I’ve heard they’re going to reevaluate him tomorrow and go from there,” Stevens told reporters on Friday. “I’d say possibility is probably the right way to put it. He had a good workout today. He was mad that he couldn’t complete it, or complete it as far as he wanted to go with it, he did with our stuff, but he’s itching to play, needless to say.”

The Celtics have played less than ideal as of late, losing 97-92 to the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday, making Baynes feel even more ravenous to help the team regroup and win some paramount games down the stretch before playoff time.

“Yeah, I want to keep playing of course I want to keep playing that’s what we do, we play competitively,” Baynes said. “I haven’t played competitively in over a month — well, actually exactly in a month. They gave me a bit of a green light but they cut it a bit short in my opinion, although it’s the best thing for me in the long run. But at the time, I don’t want to hear that.”

Aron Baynes has averaged 5.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.1 assists in 34 games this season.
